2011 CARL PARSELL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Taylor DeBottis

Taylor DeBottis was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Taylor lives with her mother, Deanna and Father, Patrick in Howell. Patrick is a member of the Hamburg Township Police Department and belongs to MAP. Taylor graduated from Howell High School with a 3.7 grade point average, and will be attending Saginaw Valley State University and plans to major in Criminal Justice.

Some of the community projects she has been involved with include organizing a team for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; a Salvation Army bell ringer; and being an umpire in the Howell Area Junior Baseball and Softball Association. Taylor has completed the Michigan State Police Teenage Driving Program and also received an American Red Cross Life Saving Award for her actions in giving emergency first aid. She also has numerous other accomplishments, in fact so many that it would be difficult to list them all.

While an accomplished team player, she is a strong willed, independent thinker. An experienced model for Meijer and Fashion Bug stores, Taylor currently works as a hostess at the Zukey Lake Tavern and is also a Home Health Care Provider for Alzheimer patients.


Emily Patterson

Emily Patterson lives in Novi with her mother, Kathleen, and her father Ian, who is a Fire Fighter with the Novi Fire Department and a member of MAFF. She graduated from Novi High School with a 4.0 grade point average and will be attending Michigan State University. Emily has received numerous academic awards, including an Academic Letter and an Academic Bar. Her extra-curricular activities include Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, leading the Humanities Study Group for Quiz Bowl competition, and serving as President of the International Club.

She has been actively involved with the Girl Scouts for 12 years, and is a Swim Instructor, teaching individuals from ages 3 – 12 how to swim at the Sports Club of Novi.


Jason McArt

Jason McArt of Gaylord, Michigan, lives with his father, Thomas, and his mother Dana who works for the Otsego County Friend of the Court, and is a member of MAPE. Jason graduated from Gaylord High School with a 3.85 grade point average and was active in basketball and was Captain of the soccer team for four years. Jason belongs to the National Honor Society and is a math tutor.

Jason has worked at the Call of the Wild / Bavarian Falls Park for four years. He is also a Lay Assistant at the First United Methodist Church; coached third – sixth grade basketball; and has worked at youth summer basketball and soccer camps.

Jason plans on attending either Alma College or Central Michigan University, majoring in either Broadcasting or Secondary Education, with the goal of becoming a math teacher.


Jordan Martin

Jordan Martin lives with his stepfather Brian Medbury and his mother Aimee Medbury in Hartland. Jordan’s mother is a police officer with the Green Oak Township Police Department, and is a member of MAP. Jordan carried a 3.0 grade point average at Hartland High School.

Jordan played football for four years, was the 2010 team Captain, and named to the All County Football Team. He also played Lacrosse for four years. He has been actively involved in his community as a volunteer for the Hartland Area Youth Athletic Association; participated in the Relay for Life to fight breast cancer; was the 2010 Powder Puff football coach; and was chosen to be a Guest Reader by elementary students and a person they could look up to as a role model. He is also involved with recycling in his community; and with the Boy Scouts.

Jordan works at Fiesta Restaurant in Hartland and will be studying Sports Management at Sienna Heights University. Jordan will also be receiving football and academic scholarships from the University upon his successful graduation.
